Breakfasts with Buster
How does a dog lover describe their pet in a way that other people can love them as much as they do?  It's a hard task to even define what truly makes our own pet so lovable to us.  But a true lover of dogs wants to share their stories and talk about the joys their pet brings.  So, we would like to tell you about Buster and his life.

Buster B. Brown was one heck of a dog.  In fact, he was extraordinary.  He was the best four-legged friend Valerie and her husband ever had.  He was their very best friend, their better half and a soul mate.

A brindle Boxer mix, he was funny and sharp.  He loved to run and play.  He loved cats and trucks, especially the UPS truck.

He came to live with Valerie and Woody in November, 1997.  One of a litter of 10 that needed homes, he was chosen to join Baron, a 2-year old Doberman Pinscher.  The two became fast companions.

It didn't take long to see that Buster was going to be larger than Val had first expected, when she carried him home at about 15 pounds.  At the age of three, Buster was topping the scales at 137 pounds.

Buster flourished in his home, enduring countless photo sessions in holiday costume, playing with Baron and cavorting with the couple's cats.

In 2005, Buster began to show signs of a problem with his health. He was lethargic and refused to eat his nightly treat.  Tests showed that his spleen had some slight bleeding.  Surgery successfully removed his spleen and he went home.

It was in February of 2007 that Val noticed that Buster was limping.  Although thinking that it might be one of those minor kinds of injuries that an active dog might get, Val took no chances and had him checked.  The tests showed something far more serious: Buster had bone cancer.  Val and Woody, along with Buster's veterinarian, discussed all the options, considering Buster's age and the severity of the diagnosis.

The course of treatment they chose, and how it affected Buster's year, is what Val has described in Breakfasts with Buster.  They chose what they thought was best for Buster to continue his good life and now Val shares their experiences and story with you.

Buster was a great dog - an extraordinary companion and friend.  His is a story for all dog lovers.
